Sciatica
Sciatica Symptoms:
Lower Back Pain
Pain Radiating Down The Leg
Countless individuals across the country deal with sciatica pain and search endlessly for relief. Often, the condition becomes more aggravated the longer it goes improperly treated. Those who suffer from sciatica are all too familiar with the symptoms. Sciatica pain can range from mild to severe. The location of the pain is typically restricted to the lower extremities and can be intermittent in nature. It is not uncommon for individuals to feel the pain worsen if the condition goes untreated.
The regions of the spine that are most susceptible to being the root of sciatica problems are the lumbar and pelvic areas. Many of our patients before receiving treatment find that a simple task such as trying to tie their shoelaces kick-started their severe discomfort. It can seem that sciatica pain can suddenly affect people out of the blue, but the truth is that the root of sciatica develops over a long period of time and suddenly rears its head when the last needle breaks the haystack.
The amount of time it takes for a patient to find relief from their sciatica can depend on a variety of factors, such as severity and length of time affected by the condition. It is not uncommon for some patients to find relief immediately while other patients respond after repeated, continuous treatments over a longer timeline. What drives healing is primarily the state of the spine and the discs within it that must be realigned. Thankfully, it is commonplace for us to help patients find relief much quicker than it took for them to develop the condition.
Degenerative Disk Disease
Degenerative disc happens when one or more of the discs between the vertebrae of the spinal column deteriorates or breaks down. Signs of degenerative disc disease include weakness, numbness, and pain that radiates down the legs. This condition naturally occurs with age as the rubbery discs between the vertebrae become worn and cease to provide the protection and shock absorption as they once did.
A variety of treatment options can be used to alleviate the pain and discomfort caused by degenerative disc disease. At Total Disc, Bone, & Joint Chiropractic we always begin with the most holistic and least invasive options. After a thorough evaluation we will develop a comprehensive plan specific to your needs and lifestyle that may include occupational therapy, physical therapy, special exercises, or other chiropractic techniques. Over the years we have helped many patients find relief without surgery, shots, or more extreme treatment methods. If you believe you may have degenerative disc disease, give us a call and schedule your free consultation.
Central Canal Stenosis
Central Canal Stenosis, Spinal Stenosis that occurs in the spinal canal, is the narrowing of one or more of the bony openings in the spinal vertebrae. Central Canal Stenosis can cause compression of the spinal cord. Some of the symptoms include sharp, almost shock-like pain, numbness, tingling, and/or weakness that can radiate to the arms and legs. In severe cases impaired balance and difficulty walking can occur. As the issue progresses, many people become less active and begin stooping over.
Total Disc, Bone, & Joint Chiropractic has several non-surgical treatment options for patients suffering from Central Canal Stenosis. We will evaluate each patient on an individual basis to create a treatment plan tailored to their individual needs. We have found that physical therapy can help open the central canal’s constrictors to improve blood flow to the spine. We can also provide detailed instructions on modifying your daily activities to avoid worsening the symptoms and reduce discomfort. Failed Back Surgery
Failed back syndrome is a debilitating condition, with symptoms ranging from chronic pain in the back, neck, or legs. This pain can be sharp or dull, aching, radiating, or burning. Sometimes the pain continues post surgery and sometimes the patient seems completely cured immediately afterward but then develops symptoms and pain in the days or weeks following surgery. There are several root causes of Failed Back Syndrome. In rare instances the scar tissue created by the surgery itself will begin to affect the patient. In these cases the symptoms, pain, and discomfort will gradually appear and slowly worsen after the surgery. Recurrent disc herniation another cause of Failed Back Syndrome, however instead of a gradual appearance of pain or symptoms the patient will suddenly experience pain or other symptoms. Finally, there are the rare instances of errors occurring during surgery where the surgeon may have left a piece of bone or failed to remove part of the disc, both of which can press on and aggravate the nerves in the spine to cause pain and discomfort.
At Total Disc, Bone, & Joint Chiropractic we will use imaging technology and a comprehensive chiropractic exam to determine what the root cause of your pain post back surgery really is. Once we know the underlying cause of your issues we can develop an individualized plan to help get you back on the path to wellness and living pain free.
